   ## tuqtuli

End of August in Amsterdam, Netherlands, I gave a five-day open [tuqtuli workshop](https://tuqtuli.com/workshops) at the [»Word, Image and Social Dynamics« conference](https://iaswis2026amsterdam.framer.website) of IAWIS, International Association of Word and Image Studies.

In September, the [Vienna Design Week](https://www.viennadesignweek.at/en/) is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. As part of the celebrations, on 26 September, it is staging an anniversary symposium to examine the current state of discourse and the socio-cultural position of the design sector. It examines the current state of the design world through the lens of the »Five Stages of Grief«: »Denial«, »Anger« & »Bargaining«, »Depression« & »Nostalgia« and »Acceptance«. With a tuqtuli workshop and talk I will be hosting the »Acceptance« session.

Also as part of Vienna Design Week, I will be running a one-day tuqtuli workshop at the [New Design University](https://www.ndu.ac.at/en) in St. Pölten on 25 September.

From 11 to 15 October the [HIT Holon Institute of Technology](https://www.hit.ac.il/en/academic/design/visual-communication/), Israel, will run their annual International Design Week, this time under  
the theme »Ignorance is (Not) Bliss« – and with a tuqtuli workshop that I give together with Zachi Diner, a professor from their visual communication department.

On 5 November, I will be speaking at the »Design Talk« on the topic of »inclusive design« at the [Design Zentrum Hamburg](https://design-zentrum-hamburg.de/en/), Germany, and will also be running a mini tuqtuli workshop as part of the event.

From there, I will travel on to Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, where I will be running a week-long tuqtuli workshop at the [Hochschule für Gestaltung (University of Design)](https://signup.hfg-gmuend.de/laborwoche-25/workshops/tuqtuli).

For next year, the [Liepāja Central Scientific library](http://www.liepajasczb.lv) in Liepāja, Latvia, has invited tuqtuli with a workshop from 5 to 9 May. As 9 May is [Europe Day](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe_Day), the workshop’s theme will be Europe’s motto »[united in diversity](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motto_of_the_European_Union)«.

## the milulayu project 

is a sibling of the ibuproject, that aims to translate the instructions for nine further medicines into tuqtuli.

In the summer semester of 2026, I was standing in for Prof. Daniel Utz with a seminar on the topic of ​‘visual thinking’ in the master’s programme strategic design at the [Hochschule für Gestaltung (University of Design) in Schwäbisch Gmünd](https://signup.hfg-gmuend.de/laborwoche-25/workshops/tuqtuli), Germany. The subject of this seminar was pictographic communication, or, to be more precise: [the milulayu project](https://tuqtuli.com/the-milulayu-project). Specifically, it involved translating instructions for various medicines into tuqtuli.

Now, the resulting works will be exhibited in various locations. At the same time, this seminar formed part of the contribution to Frankfurt’s programme as World Design Capital, WDC. In July, the students’ tuqtuli translations were featured in the WDC Campus exhibition »dreams, ide­as & pro­to­ty­pes« at the [Museum Angewandte Kunst (Museum of Applied Arts)](https://www.museumangewandtekunst.de/).

During the winter semester, I will continue to work in Dessau, Germany, together with students in the international Master’s programme »Integrated Design« (MAID). As a project, this is a perfect fit for the local [University of Applied Sciences](https://www.hs-anhalt.de/en/start-page.html), which carries on the Bauhaus’s genius loci by combining design, technology and social practice within an interdisciplinary curriculum.

## old masters, new masters 

On 5 June 2027 – [Environment Day](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Environment_Day), I will be giving the next »[old masters, new masters](https://www.juligudehus.net/en/rest-art-workshop)« upcycling workshop as part of the IGA (International Garden Exhibition) 2027 at the Zukunftsgarten (Future Garden) in Dortmund, Germany, from 12 noon to 6 pm. Come along!
