»old masters, young masters« | upcycling workshop

Our planet is drowning in waste. Worldwide, we dump 3.5 million tonnes every day. So, in this workshop, we cut waste. We crunch it, punch it and squeeze it. And then we spear it. Rests of our consumer world experience a new start as small works of art.

Perhaps you too have occasionally been struck by the odd flora and fauna of modern consumer goods? On one hand, we are fascinated by the diversity of innovation and design in ever newer products. On the other, we are painfully aware of the environmental aspects. In navigating this fine line, in this workshop, we try to make recyclables blossom.

old masters, new masters

In this workshop, children and adults alike construct flowers from cleaned and pre-sorted plastic waste that I bring along – which is not that easy without glue!

Conversations about our everyday life, the components of which we recognize here, accompany our work. Soon it turns out that our latent product design and brand knowledge far outweighs the knowledge of herbs, flowers and trees for most of us. At the same time, we become aware of how much we have internalized the construction principles of plants and how many design details seem to be borrowed from nature.

Depending on the context, the material can also be used to create other kinds of fantasy objects, such as buildings, set designs, devices, furniture, vehicles, jewelry, play figures, aliens, or animals.

I am looking forward to come to your institution, or event. Just send me a mail so we can arrange details and dates.
