Design research is a rather young discipline. That is why there were no established conventions when I planned and executed a large-scale redesign experiment in 2005.
I invited 18 design studios to participate without revealing to them what the experiment was really about: inspired by the game Chinese Whispers, the plan was to have the designers redesign recently redesigned objects. The exciting process and astonishing results led to a talk at the TYPO Berlin.
Allow me to present several facets of the cultural technique of »redesign«. Due to the limited technical capacities of the time, the resolution of the film is rather low. However, the phenomenon itself was, and remains, iridescent and fascinating.
